Celluma Light Therapy for Acne – Does it Work?

February 3, 2017

LED light therapy is becoming a very popular option for those interested in treating acne. Light therapy is among the most effective therapies for acne as reports show 9 out of 10 users have experienced positive results.   The Celluma is an FDA approved device that uses three different types of light – red, green and blue. The blue LED light is used for the treatment of acne.

Blue light therapy is a relatively new and very efficient way to treat this skin issue. Children, teenagers, and some adults have serious problems with acne. This is where blue light therapy comes into play.

History

This therapy is a type of photo rejuvenation which relies on LED lights to improve cell efficiency, and it was originally designed and created by NASA. They first tested it on plants and after that on humans (astronauts). It turned out that LED light therapy helps people regenerate cells.

Causes

Acne is a skin problem can be caused by different things – hormonal imbalance, improper diet, genetics etc. But, in all these cases the final result is the same – an obstruction in follicles, skin structures that create hairs. The follicles are used by sebaceous glands and they make sebum. A very high level of sebum helps the growth of propionibacterium acnes bacteria which creates nodules, papules and other inflammatory structures on the skin.

Scientific studies have shown that the acne bacteria are able to soak up blue LED lights. This leads to an increased release of oxygen by a group of organic compounds which eventually results in the elimination of harmful bacteria. So, by utilizing blue LED light in therapies on a regular basis, practitioners can destroy bacteria and lower the inflammation.  With multiple regular treatments, their skin is much clearer, smoother and softer.

Treatment Frequency

To obtain the best results, you will need at least three treatments a week for 3-6 weeks. The exact amount and frequency of these treatments depends on the intensity and your skin responds. The majority of patients witness results after two or three treatments. In order to preserve the results, it is highly recommend taking a few sessions a month.  Side effects are rare and even if they occur they are mild and come in the form of swelling of the affected area and mild dryness.

It‘s worth mentioning that you can use both wrinkle and acne LED light therapy in one session, but only if your skin is not sensitive. You should be able to determine how your skin responds after a few treatments and decide whether you will use these treatments at once.

Celluma includes a third green light which makes this therapy one of the most efficient therapies today. Red light reduces redness and scars and green light is here to reduce pain.

The best part is that LED light therapy is natural, safe and painless.   It involves no chemicals, toxins or other items which could produce negative side effects.
