The Anatomy of a Lie

September 16, 2017

Is there such a thing as a white lie or other lies based on our personal measurements and level of honesty? OR maybe a lie is just a lie and a deception is far from the truth regardless of what we call it and the circumstances leading to it.  Sometimes we speak it, sometimes we should tell the truth but we hold back quietly, sometimes we know we cannot make a promise and still make it and many more versions of lying that we have become accustom to.

Let’s examine the need to lie. We lie when we are afraid that the truth as we believe it to be will have some significant unsatisfactory result directed at us or sometimes in case of a white lie we may be protecting others. Fear exists only in response to a desire to protect something that we believe its loss will diminish our wholeness. So in order to examine the reasons to lie, we will need to investigate what it is that we are trying to protect. Additionally, we need to recognize that our wholeness and perfection is not needing protection to begin with since it is independent from opinion of others and subject to any threats.

One of my favorite stories is from Jesus when he took a fig on Sabbath from the fig tree and his disciples told him that he should not have been eating on Sabbath. He explained to them that what goes into the mouth is not important because it goes through the body and gets discharged, instead what comes out of our mouth such as lies, deception and hurtful words are much more important because they come from our heart and show who we truly are inside.

Different studies have shown that our body gestures, blinking and eye positions change when we lie.  They have documented that lying makes our heart race, we pant, the blood pressure goes up along with sweat rates and our muscles become weaker. These are signs of body experiencing stress.

Basically, we are designed to go downstream like rafting down the river when we are loving, joyful, honest and compassionate since it is the universe’s natural flow of energy. We go upstream when we lie and are dishonest exposing ourselves to extra stress, friction, being less efficient and requiring more usage of energetic resources.

The most destructive people of our history and tyrants have used lying as their main strategy to succeed and become oppressors such as Hitler promoting that; “Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it, and eventually they will believe it”.

“For every good reason there is to lie, there is a better reason to tell the truth” (Bo Bennett).

Examine your priorities and you will find the right response and only when you decide to act independent from your “need” but driven by your love and compassion.

“It’s easy to get sidetracked, on the narrow Way . . .
with so many distractions, getting thrown at us each day.
It’s easy to get off course, when following the Light . . .
with so many diversions, being shoved in our sight.
It’s easy to lose focus, when trying to live the Life . . .
with so many disturbances, causing us conflict and strife.
It’s easy to lose sight of, the straight, narrow gate . . .
with so many differences, throwing us off our gait.
It’s easy to be diverted, from the Light, Life and the Way, but, we can be redirected . . .
to the Truth ~ if we stopand pray!”
