How To Break The Chain of The Past!

May 8, 2017

Average person has about 60,000 thoughts per day but the problem is that they are the same 60,000 thoughts they had yesterday”(By W. Dyer). Indeed, many of us get attached to the same defeating thoughts and have the same thoughts of yesterday over and over again. It seems that we get emotionally attached to them and very soon, like a chain they anchor us to a place where we do not want to be and they inhibit us from the enjoyment of being free to move, expand and be joyful.

It seems that we are afraid of breaking the chain and risk mourning the loss of the emptiness and the false comfort of this grounding force that the chain has provided, even if it is the attachment to something that is undesired.

Why can’t we let go and transition to what may be more pleasing. The glue is the emotion. This Emotion or energy in motion creates that bond between that event and the brain as the record keeper.

We have learned the desire to hold in order to satisfy our insecurities. The solution to break the chain may be as simple as understanding that you were a vibrational match to what it was yesterday and today you are a vibrational match to something different, new and desirable.

The following steps may assist you in breaking the chain of the past:

  • Separate yourself from your past by analyzing it as on outsider’s view. Develop the understanding that individuals and circumstances of the past may have created certain experiences for you but they did not create you. Remind yourself that you are love, you are loving and you are beyond that and untouchable by all power outside of you other than the one that beats your heart.
  • Stop living in the past and replace the times that you would usually refer to the past experiences to new desired experiences that are more pleasing to you.
  • Meditate and find moments of mental fasting to stop the clusters of past memory’s overpowering you.
  • Try to fill yourself with new things that you desire and enjoy so your cup overflows the old experiences
  • Find ways to give up anxiety and rigidity and be more courageous and flexible to try new things and have more new experiences. (“EMDR”, “EFT” and “Timeline Therapy” have shown to be very effective for making changes).

Mark Twain said; “Forgiveness is the fragrance that the violent sheds on the heel that has crushed it.” Practice the following forgiveness meditation.

  • Lay down or sit straight comfortably with your back straight and supported
  • Focus on your breathing and let go of all other thoughts as you slowly breath in and out
  • When ready, slowly breath in and out for 1 count
  • Then, breath in and out for 3 counts and hold an image of a person (living or passed) whom you believe truly loves you and you love him/her. (This can also be an image of a spiritual being that you can identify by bringing up their image)
  • Next, breath in and out for 1 count and bring up the person or situation that you need to “forgive” but superimpose the image of the loved one on top of it for this 1 count
  • Then go back to breathing normally for 1 count and relax
  • Repeat as needed and develop your personal experience from this helpful mediation
  • You will notice that your views of this person or situation starts changing and eventually you will no longer be tormented by its connection that has not been pleasing to you
